What You'll Do

UMS seeks a creative and thoughtful Digital Marketing Coordinator to join a dynamic, four-person Marketing and Communications team. Reporting directly to the Director of Digital Media, this position will be responsible for providing support across the department and across UMS, with a particular focus on social media and website content creation, email marketing, and digital production assistance.

The person in this position will work with student staff and will be closely involved in other student-centric marketing efforts. This position operates with minimal supervision and many opportunities both to work independently and to collaborate with talented people across the organization.


(35%) Digital Content Support

  • Help develop and deploy organic and paid media content across UMS's social media platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
  • Develop content for blog posts
  • Assist the Director of Digital Media with video production work to support the entire organization, including Development and Education initiatives
  • Maintain archive landing page with updated and relevant content from UMS's history
  • Update content on website and assist with large-scale web projects such as on-sales and new feature implementation
  • Work with digital marketing consultants as liaison for SEO and paid ad campaigns
  • Assist in implementation of other new digital initiatives, including new website development and long-range planning toward UMS's 150th anniversary celebration

(35%) Email Marketing

  • Create HTML emails through Prospect2 email platform, including but not limited to marketing emails, automated pre- and post-show events, and monthly Learning & Engagement newsletters
  • Using Tessitura database, create and maintain prospect lists for email campaigns and for digital advertising efforts
  • Work with Learning & Engagement and Development teams to create online registration and confirmation messages for events
  • Manage email calendar

(30%) General Marketing Support

  • Tag and maintain archival photos 
  • Attend weekly marketing department strategy meetings and regular cross-departmental digital strategy meetings
  • Assist with list development, deduping, and database management for print and digital marketing, including series renewal campaign
  • In conjunction with the Director of Digital Media, recruit, train, and supervise intern/work-study positions to support department needs; provide feedback and mentorship
  • Assist Vice President, Marketing & Communications with survey deployment and analysis
  • Coordinate poster distribution with volunteers as needed
  • Supporting other departments as needed, alongside the rest of the marketing and communications team
  • Other duties as assigned

    Housed on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, UMS is one of the oldest performing arts presenters in the country, committed to connecting audiences with performing artists from around the world in uncommon and engaging experiences. With a program steeped in music, dance, and theater, UMS contributes to a vibrant cultural community by presenting approximately 60-75 performances and over 100 free educational activities each season. UMS also commissions new work, sponsors artist residencies, and organizes collaborative projects with local, national, and international partners. 

    UMS was selected as one of the 2014 recipients of the National Medal of Arts, the nation's highest public artistic honor, awarded annually by the president of the United States at the White House to those who have "demonstrated a lifetime of creative excellence," according to the National Endowment for the Arts, which oversees the selection process.     Required Qualifications*

    • A passion for creative work, as well as the "mechanics" behind digital operations
    • 1-3 years of related work experience  
    • Knowledge of and experience with email marketing platforms (such as ActiveCampaign);
    • Knowledge of and experience with web content management and basic HTML 
    •  Strong attention to detail, with excellent writing and proofreading skills  
    • Able to effectively manage several projects simultaneously and in various stages of development
    • Technologically savvy with proficiency in: Google and Microsoft Office suites, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere);
    • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed

    Desired Qualifications*

    • Experience working with Tessitura or a similar CRM/Marketing database
    • Knowledge of, interest in, and curiosity about performing arts and artists
    • Experience developing short-form video content for social media
    • Use of project management software like Asana

      Work Schedule

      This full-time position, with workdays Monday through Friday, is based in Ann Arbor, MI, on the campus of the University of Michigan.  Applicant must have the ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

      Modes of Work

      This position is presently classified as hybrid.  Hybrid work agreements are reviewed annually by the organization and are subject to change.
