Full Job Description

Great Care, Delivered is the promise that we make to our customers. If you have a passion for helping animals, and a love for serving others – we want you to help us deliver on that promise by joining our communications team.

The Director of Internal Communications has a multi-faceted, integrated role that cuts across the organization to engage our people with highly relevant and relatable communication that drives connection to leadership.

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this leader is responsible for building a high-performing strategic communications program and acts as a steward of the business. Working closely with leadership, HR, and business teams, you’ll play a key role in reinforcing Wedgewood’s priorities through clear, engaging, and effective communication.

As a communications leader, this person is responsible for developing and executing strategic plans that bring Wedgewood’s mission and vision to life to engage the hearts and minds of our employees. In addition, this leader should have experience handling complex, sensitive, and high-stakes communications situations. This role also works in close partnership with the Marketing team in a matrixed environment to ensure alignment and consistency in brand communications across internal and external touchpoints.

What you will do: (in more detail)

  • Internal Comms: Lead the development and execution of Wedgewood’s internal communications strategy, ensuring alignment with company goals and a unified employee experience across all levels of the organization.
  • Executive Communications: Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, including the CEO and executive team, providing strategic counsel on internal messaging, change communication, and crisis response.
  • Craft compelling executive communications that reflect leadership’s voice and vision—ranging from Board presentations to all-employee updates—while ensuring messages are authentic, transparent, and inspiring.
  • Bridge the gap between leadership and the front lines, ensuring messaging resonates equally in the boardroom and the break room by listening actively, understanding employee sentiment, and communicating with empathy.
  • Continuously evolve Wedgewood’s internal communications model to support business transformation, cultural alignment, and organizational growth.
  • Translate complex business strategies into clear, relatable narratives that inform, engage, and empower employees at every level of the company.
  • Oversee and optimize internal communications channels (e.g., SharePoint, Teams, email, digital signage), ensuring the right messages reach the right audiences at the right time.
  • Plan and execute enterprise-wide internal events and leadership-led communications, including town halls, strategy updates, and cultural initiatives.
  • Build scalable processes and frameworks to ensure communications are timely, consistent, and accessible across departments, locations, and teams.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, operations, commercial teams, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and integration of internal messaging.
  • Monitor, measure, and adapt communication strategies based on engagement data, employee feedback, and best-in-class industry practices.
  • Champion a people-first communication approach, cultivating connection, trust, and belonging through every interaction, whether face-to-face with frontline employees or in digital executive briefings.
  • Brand Communications: Partner cross-functionally with the Marketing team to ensure alignment and consistency in brand messaging and visual identity across all channels.
  • Collaborate within a matrixed structure to co-develop and execute brand strategies that support both communications and marketing objectives.
  • Serve as a key liaison between Communications and Marketing to maintain a unified brand voice and ensure adherence to brand guidelines across public-facing content.
  • Support integrated campaigns by contributing strategic messaging and brand positioning in close coordination with Marketing counterparts.

Who you are & What you’ve done:

  • Bachelors degree in comms, journalism or a related field
  • 8 years experience in a similar role in a fast paced environment
  • Proven track record of developing and executing internal communications strategies that align with business objectives during periods of significant organizational change (e.g., mergers, restructuring, digital transformation, culture shifts).
  • Demonstrated ability to influence executive leadership and serve as a trusted advisor on communication strategy and change management.
  • Skilled in leveraging multi-channel communication tools (intranets, newsletters, video, town halls, digital platforms) to drive clarity, transparency, and engagement.

What’s in it for you:

  • A comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and flexible spending accounts
  • 401(k) retirement plan with a generous company contribution to help you save for the future
  • Company Paid Life and disability insurance
  • Access to voluntary insurance options
  • A generous paid time off program that increases every year
